For the first time top medical technologies company Aesculap AG awarded the Aesculap-Award for the best Master Thesis written by the International Business School Tuttlingen’s (IBST) MBA in Medical Devices & Health Care Management graduates. Mr. Ingo vom Berg was rewarded with the Euro 1000. - award for his top-graded thesis.
Furtwangen University has been cooperating with the IBST in the training of MBAs since 2009. By now the first cohort of students has completed their MBAs at the HFU and has been awarded their Masters degrees by Furtwangen University. Thus the medical technologies company took this opportunity to honour the year’s best master thesis. „The Tuttlingen MBA’s high quality of graduates is obvious. By awarding the Aesculap-Award we want to support robustly the transfer between academia and business as well as show our esteem for outstanding thesis. Aesculap supports this demanding study programme and the company also supports its employees in their continuing education efforts“, states Aesculap-CEO Prof. Dr. Hanns-Peter Knaebel during the awards ceremony.
Prof. Dr. Michael Lederer, Hochschule Furtwangen Vice President and the IBST’s academic director congratulated the award winner: „Ingo vom Berg’s master thesis shows a very high standard throughout. It is convincing both in its scientific achievement and its high practical relevance. It is obvious that Mr. vom Berg has been able to successfully integrate the content and concepts of the master programme into his thesis and his areas of operation at work. I am glad that this outstanding work so richly deservedly receives this award. However the year’s other graduates also submitted Thesis of a very high calibre and exemplary practical relevance “.
Aesculap AG is one of the IBST’s founding members and foots a share of the study fees. They send three to six of their employees annually to complete the master programme. This year’s award winner, too, is an Aesculap employee: Ingo vom Berg started his career some 17 years ago as a trainee and is now Vice President Global Marketing Neurosurgery. His Master Thesis analyses and evaluates the strategic business field of neurosurgery utilising a number of models and methods. On this basis he drew up recommendations for action to allow Aesulap continued successful operations and sustainable growth in the area. „Studying for this MBA has been a tremendous enrichment and has extended my personal horizon. I can recommend it whole-heartedly. I am looking forward to now utilising what I have learned in my everyday working life“, says vom Berg and continues to announce that he intends to donate the award money to the Nachsorgeklinik Tannheim (hospital for aftercare).
The two-year MBA programme offered by the IBST in Tuttlingen since 2003 is an expressly practically relevant and internationally recognised scientific further education programme preparing for higher management functions. The Medical Devices & Healthcare Management programme focuses on medical technology products and the health care sector and is thus unique in the world. Prof. Lederer emphasis the numerous advantages: „The master programme has been conceived in close cooperation with renowned and internationally active medical technology companies as well as health sector institutions. It is continuously updated both in terms of content and delivery to take into account the current requirements and developments of the market.“
The master programme delivers basic economic key competencies, specific know-how of its sector as well as key qualifications for operating internationally. For the academic year 2011/2012 fourteen selected managers from four countries have started their studies at the International Business School Tuttlingen. The IBST’s next master programme will start from October 2012.
