Kids' University (Kinderuni)

It's never too early to awake a child's interest in something, which is why every year in July kids aged from 8 - 12 years old attend the Kids' University for the day on the Schwenningen Campus of Furtwangen University. The popular event is organized jointly by the Faculties of Medical and Life Sciences and Mechanical and Medical Engineering.

Past Kids' University Events

Girls' Day

Girls' Day is an annual nationwide event sponsored jointly by the Ministry for Education and Research, the German Trade Unions Association and Initiative D21, a political and economic initiative to support the information society.

The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at Furtwangen University runs mechatronics workshops on Girls' Day every year to give teenage girls from local schools hands-on experience of mechatronics by working independently on a fun project. During the workshop, the girls have the opportunity to apply what they have learned at school in a "real" workshop, for example by assembling their own picture frame made of metal and lit with diodes. By participating in the Girls' Day initiative, the university hopes to encourage girls to consider a career in the area of science and technology. Girls' Day events are also held on the Tuttlingen and Furtwangen campuses.

The Girls' Day initiative aims to:

  • introduce girls as early as possible to the real working world and the job opportunities available
  • highlight the many and various skills and strengths that girls have
  • widen the career spectrum of girls to broaden their perspectives
  • increase the overall impact by coordinating successful individual initiatives

Girls' Day 2017

The next Girls' Day takes place on 27 April 2017.

Please register for the individual workshops here: www.girls-day.de.
