Explained step by step
Please note: The application procedures at our responsible practice institutions start and end much earlier than the HFU application deadline. The application deadline at our practice institutions is 31 January.
Step 1: Application
The first step is to apply with the relevant documents to one or more of our cooperating responsible practice institutions where the practical part of the course is to be completed.

The application should contain at least the following documents
- Letter of application
- Download file:University entrance qualification (twelve-year general school education, vocational training as a health/children's/nursing nurse according to §10 HebG)
- If applicable, proof of sufficient German language skills for foreign and stateless applicants (language level CEF C1, e.g. DSH-2, TestDaF min. TDN4)
Note: Please note that our cooperating practice institutions may also require further requirements (e.g. CV, letter of motivation) for application to their institution - please check in advance!
Step 2: Conclusion of a student contract
Once the application process has been successfully completed at one of our cooperating responsible practice institutions, a contract for academic midwifery training (= student contract) is concluded with the respective practice institution.
This contract is used to reserve a place on the Midwifery Science degree programme. To confirm the study programme, see step 3.
Note: An extended certificate of good conduct and a Download file:medical certificate of good health (both no older than three months) are required to conclude the student contract.
Step 3: Application on the Furtwangen University online portal by July 1 (deadline)
With the complete application documents, you can now register on the university portal of our university: https://mio.hs-furtwangen.de
Note: An application via hochschulstart.de is not necessary.
Step 4: Letter of admission and enrollment at the university
Once the application documents are complete, you can enrol at HFU. We will contact you with information about the next steps (semester fee, enrollment, etc.). Lectures start in the third week of September.
