Cost of study

Students from the EU and EEA are not charged tuition fees for Bachelor's degrees and for the vast majority of master's programmes.

At the moment (SS2017) the university charges the following fees per student/per semester:

  • €47 student services fee
  • €70 administration fee
  • €13 student union contribution

Living costs during your study are around €720 per month (including rent for a room in a shared accomodation, food, clothes, learning aids, car/ public transport, health insurance, telephone, internet, television, recreation, culture, sport).

BaFöG Advice
Student Services Freiburg also offers regular BAFöG advisory sessions on all three university campuses. See here for dates and locations.

Please note: international students should seek advice before applying for BAföG as the application can affect your residency status.

Financial emergencies

Social Services counsellors from Student Services Freiburg can give advice and help you to find the right people to help you.

Caritas social services offer emergency assistance to those who are in a critical situation in their lives to help them to get back on their feet again. Trained social workers offer free advice and support on a confidential basis.
