German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) STIBET Programme
HFU can offer a limited number of scholarships and other types of financial assistance (Studienabschlussbeihilfen) to outstanding students every year through the DAAD STIBET Programme.
STIBET – a scholarship and support programme – is financed by funds from the Foreign Office and serves for improved support of international students and provides scholarships for international students. Eligible are all degree-seeking students enrolled in Bachelor or Master programmes.
There are two types of scholarships:
1. Graduation scholarship
Prerequisite for this scholarship is that the students have achieved good grades and the successful graduation is to be expected within one year. The Graduation scholarship can be granted for maximum six months.
2. Scholarships for students who have shown high commitment to their fellow-students
Prerequisite for this scholarship is that the students have achieved good grades in addition to being particularly committed with regards to the international context at their university. The scholarship can be granted for 12 months. In exceptional cases an extension may be granted.
Scholarship amount: Generally 300 € per month at HFU
Duration: Generally 2 – 4 months at HFU
Application deadlines: 1 March and 1 September.

- Letter of recommendation by a professor (only applicable for Graduation scholarship)

Emergency Financial Assistance - HFU
Students experiencing acute financial hardship can apply for financial assistance from the Friends of Furtwangen University Funding Association or from the Ministry of Science and Research (Wissenschaftsministerium). This assistance cannot be used to finance a semester abroad or a study semester. Please contact the Director or Assistant Director of the International Center to discuss your personal situation prior to application.
Emergency Financial Assistance - Churches
Students who find themselves in an acute financial situation can also apply to the church congregations at the university. Further information on the university churches can be found here. Caritas, a charity run by the Catholic Church, offers counselling and some financial support which is also available to students.
Germany Scholarship (Deutschlandstipendium)
A small number of Germany Scholarships (Deutschlandstipendien) are available for both German and non-German undergraduate students who have achieved outstanding academic results. Financial Assistance from Student Services Freiburg
Student Services Freiburg offers HFU students various types of financial support such as student loans, emergency funds and free lunches coupons for the dining halls. Click here for further information.
Further scholarships and types of support
International HFU students who have achieved outstanding results in their foundation studies (first two semesters), can apply to various organizations for financial support, e.g. Kölner Gymnasial- und Stiftungsfonds. German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) Prize
The DAAD prize is awarded annually by Furtwangen University for outstanding performance by a foreign student. Foreign students who have gained excellent academic results and have shown outstanding social or intercultural involvement are recommended by faculty staff and selected in consultation with the university executive and the International Center. Prize money of €1000 is also awarded. The prize-giving ceremony takes place during the first semester welcome in October.
