Once you have secured a study space at a university abroad, you will need to take care of the following organisational steps:

Notification regarding Study Semester Abroad: You have to submit this form together with a compy of your admissions letter from your host university and a current grade sheet (as proof that you have successfully completed your basic studies ) to the International Center no later than 01.03. (summer semester abroad) or 01.09. (winter semester abroad).

Visa: only applicable for non-EU countries, further information can be found on the webpages of the embassy / consulate of the country in question. Normally you will need your admission documents from the guest university as well as proof that your living expenses are covered throughout the stay (sample bank statement). Some countries require inoculation documents or other medical records.

Health insurance: Make very sure that you check with your health insurer whether and on what conditions their coverage will extend to your stay abroad. Within the EU and some other countries such coverage is regulated by a social insurance agreement, giving you such coverage as is usual in your host country. For this to apply, you will need the Europäische Krankenversicherungskarte (European Health Insurance Card = EHIC), which can be obtained free of charge from your health insurer. For other countries you will need to obtain private international health insurance coverage.

Private Liability and Accident Insurance (Haftpflicht- und Unfallversicherung): Find further information on the webpage of the Studentenwerks Freiburg as well as our own information leaflet.

Current travel information on individual countries can be found on the webpage of the Auswärtigen Amtes (German foreign office).
