A delegation from the Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT), one of the most prestigious universities in China, recently visited Furtwangen University (HFU). It is hoped to offer a new HFU Master's programme in China in the future. HFU President, Prof. Dr. Rolf Schofer and the Dean of the Faculty of Business Information Systems, Prof. Gabriele Hecker welcomed the delegation from Beijing in Furtwangen.
The Faculty of Business Information Systems at HFU has been expanding its competence in the area of Business Intelligence, and especially in the area of "Big Data" with the processing of large and complex amounts of data, for the last year and a half. This has been achieved on the one hand through the addition of Dr. Holger Ziekow, an expert in the area of Data Analytics, and on the other hand through the establishment of the Business Intelligence Competence Center and the setting up of a lab for Big Data Analytics. The BIT approached the Faculty of Business Information Systems at HFU to discuss the possibility of cooperation for a Master's programme in the area of Big Data Analytics. After more than a year of preparation, the partnership plans have taken shape meaning that the visit of the Chinese delegation could be used to clarify final questions. The signing of the contract is planned for spring 2017. The Master's programme will hopefully begin in September 2017 once it has been approved by the relevant ministry in China.
The BIT has been one of the leading research universities in China for over 50 years and has over 40,000 students.
The Master of Applied Big Data Analytics will be taught in English in Beijing mainly by HFU lecturers and some BIT professors. Participants of the fee-paying programme will be awarded an internationally recognized degree from HFU.
