During the Summer School, which will take place from 16 to 30 July, 2017, 19 STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) students from the HFU partner university USST (University of Shanghai for Technology) will be carrying out project work with HFU International Engineering students, attending seminars and taking part in various freetime activities. The Chinese students will be accompanied by Prof. Shushan Li and Mr. Haoyuan Sun from USST.
Through the courses in German/European regional studies and intercultural communication and the leisure activities, both student groups will have the chance to improve their knowledge of the others' language and culture. Also included in the programme are practical sessions in the lab and workshops on mechanical and medical engineering. Students will also be visiting various companies in the area such as IMS Gear, KARL STORZ and Daimler. Additionally, they will gain an insight into the research activities of Furwangen University through a visit to the open day at the HFU study centre in Rottweil.
The aim of the project is to strengthen the universities' international links and improve the intercultural and language skills of all the students involved. In the future more Chinese STEM exchange students will attend HFU and the number of women participating should also increase. Closer coordination of the academic curricula at USST and HFU through the joint development of lectures is also planned.
The "HFU for USST" Summer School project is supported by the Baden-Württemberg student scholarship – BWS plus, a programme offered by the Baden-Württemberg Foundation. The project, which is funded for 3 years to the amount of almost €100,000, aims to encourage international cooperation.
