The university encompasses both central bodies such as the Rektorat (board of executives), Hochschulrat (university council) and Senat (senate) as well as decentral faculties. The university is managed by the Rektorat (as a managing committee) which in turn is supervised by the Hochschulrat (as a supervisory board). The Senat is the elected parliament of the university which decides all issues regarding the university's academic management.
