Multimedia Function Design
Multimedia Function Design - Sustainable Standards for Technical Documentation
The world of technical documentation and information is in a state of flux. It is more connected, more modular, more mobile and more multimedia-based.
It is not possible to structure, produce, distribute and maintain large amounts of information both qualitatively and economically without a sound method, especially not in the current day and age when the range of media has been expanded through videos, animation and augmented reality - and this range of multiamedia is also made available on smartphones, tablets and portable displays.
The "Multimedia Function Design" research project addresses this situation by further developing the established Funktionsdesign® standardization method and by empirical testing of the results. The method must be modified and expanded because companies need clear criteria as to what are the most effective and economical media to use in different circumstances. Information developers need a model to follow and comprehensible rules as to how information and instructions in all forms of media can be produced in a standardized manner. A theoretical basis alone does not provide the necessary safety. The project will therefore regularly test examples of production and rules for usability.
