Engineer Qualification at the MicroTEC Südwest Cluster of Excellence

The MicroTEC Südwest Cluster of Excellence is a byword for systematic leading-edge research in the field of microsystems technology. A unique combination of large high-performance firms and highly innovative SMEs forms the industrial basis of MicroTEC Südwest. On the academic side, outstanding universities and research institutes offer top quality research and teaching. The aim of the project is to ensure that there are a enough academically-trained experts in the field of microtechnology who can react to the growing and rapidly changing demands and development methods of the cluster, particularly in the key areas of mobility, health and technology platforms, who can also quickly realize innovations based on ideas and primary research from research projects.

The project has the following goals:

  • Establish the cluster region as a world-leading and highly visible supplier of high-quality academic training in the field of microsystems technology both nationally and internationally
  • Ensure a supply of top talent (high potentials) in the field of microtechnology and microsystems technology for the cluster
  • Unlock potential in the cluster region by offering part-time academic courses in the field of MST using “blended learning” concepts (Master)
  • Improve innovation skills through the integration of current R&D developments in such courses
  • Make it easier for women to combine family and academic career through family-friendly further education options

In order to achieve the above-mentioned goals the following specific measures will be taken:

  • International University Weeks for students during which current R&D developments in the cluster will be presented
  • Develop portfolio of "International Internships" in the cluster region for international students
  • Offer part-time further education at master's level
