Course Content & Grading Criteria
The Language Centre (LC) offers four types of language courses (novice, basic, advanced, and certificate), which are subdivided into nine levels in total.
Courses in Spanish, French, Italian, Japanese, Chinese, Russian, and German as a Foreign Language (Deutsch als Fremdsprache – DaF) are mainly offered at novice and basic levels, while English is offered at basic, advanced, and certificate levels.
Prospective language course participants must enrol online during the first week of lectures. A timetable is provided for reference. If you do not have internet access, you may use the computer in the LC office to enrol. Participants must then enrol for courses in the Admissions and Records Office during the enrolment period.

Language course grades
You need to achieve a minimum of 50 out of 100 points in order to pass a course. Points are allocated based on the percentage weighting of the individual components of a language course.
- Written test 40 per cent = max 40 points
- Class contribution 40 per cent = max 40 points
- Presentation/homework 20 per cent = max 20 points
Regular LC language course attendance is a requirement for passing the "class contribution" part of the examination. Participants who are absent on more than three dates per semester (including sick absence) will receive no points for the "class contribution" part of the examination.
Table of points and grades:
Written test 35 pts + class contribution 35 pts + presentation 20 pts = 90 pts = final grade 1.3
Written text 35 pts + class contribution 0 pts + presentation 10 pts = 45 pts = final grade 5.0
