What makes us the first choice?

We were the first university in Germany to establish a Faculty of Business Information Systems in 1971 and since then we have consistently come out ahead of the competition in national rankings. In 2002, we were also the first university to offer a degree programme specifically for women.

Business Information Systems graduates from Furtwangen have an excellent reputation in a wide variety of business sectors, largely because programme structure and content is continuously updated following technological and economic developments and current job market trends.

Communication
From the first semester on, our curriculum is practice-oriented, going beyond purely theoretical foundations. Learning takes place through mutual dialogue and in small groups with professors and practitioners in the field. As well as classroom and laboratory-based classes, approximately half of the study hours are allotted to involvement in business-related activities including internships, workshops and project work as well as thesis preparation and applied research projects. The maximum number of students per semester is 45.

Core competencies
Our core competencies are logistics, eBusiness, management accounting, software development for business applications, high-performance information-systems design, business intelligence, teamwork and moderation. Our graduates achieve top positions in industry. Surveys of our graduates continue to award us excellent ratings for our broad-based, modern and comprehensive course material.

Top quality
Our integrated internships prepare students for the modern workplace. All professors have a solid background in business and broad-ranging current expertise. Students gain a solid foundation of knowledge for life-long learning.

International
The faculty is very internationally-oriented. Applicants come from over 20 nations and we encourage all students to take advantage of the opportunity to study for a semester abroad at one of our many partner universities.
Ten per cent of our lectures are held in English and our degrees are recognised around the world.

After successful completion of our programme, our graduates have a wide range of job opportunities to choose from. Our Business Information Systems graduates have the knowledge and expertise to deal with the challenges of the rapidly changing, globalised world of business.
