Tuition fees and other study costs

As of winter semester 2017/18, Baden-Württemberg will introduce tuition fees at state universities for international students. Students from EU or EEA countries are exempt from these tuition fees which means that for them, all  Bachelor's courses and most Master's courses are still free of charge.

Tuition fees are charged for some Master's degree courses which require several years of professional experience (see list below).

International students from Non-EU or EEA countries will be required to pay tuition fees of €1,500/semester. Click here for detailed information tuition fees, (e.g. possible fee waivers).

All HFU students have to pay the following fees and student contributions:

Cost of living

The average cost of living of around €550/mth for accommodation, food and medical insurance in the Furtwangen and Schwenningen region is much lower than in large university cities. However for visa purposes students have to submit proof of a monthly income of €735 for the duration of their stay.

The financing of your degree programme has to be planned very carefully in advance as opportunities for foreign students to supplement income through a scholarship or working while studying in Germany are extremely limited.
