Prof. Dr. Rolf Schofer has been re-elected as Rector of Furtwangen University. The decision was made in the joint session of the university's Board of Governors and Senate, held in Schwenningen on 8 November, 2017. The Rector of the university represents the university and is responsible for its overall operation. He is Chairman of the Board of Executives, the Senate and its various committees. The period of office is 6 years. Furtwangen University is one of the largest universities of applied sciences in Baden-Württemberg.
Schofer thanked those present for the trust they have shown in him. "The focus of the next term of office will be to further strengthen the development capability of the university, and to define more clearly the profile of the degree programmes offered, the campuses and the university as a whole."
Milestones in Rolf Schofer's two previous terms of office were the foundation of the Tuttlingen Campus, the increased importance of research and the introduction of new future-oriented programmes such as safety and security, health and psychology, as well as the internationalization of the university. Student numbers have risen continuously over this time. Currently around 6,500 students are matriculated, almost double the number of students as when Dr. Schofer became rector 12 years ago.
Rolf Schofer was born in Villingen in 1954. He studied mathematics in Karlsruhe and was awarded his PhD in natural sciences in 1984. After working in various banking institutions, Dr. Schofer became a professor at Furtwangen University in 1989. He has been the Rector of the university since 2006.
