At the Centre for Applied Research - Ambient Assisted Living, founded in 2013 under the management of the HFU, innovative systems and technologies are developed which support independence in old age and ensure participation in society of the elderly and others who need help.

A look at the demographic development and the needs of an ever greater group of elderly citizens to remain as long as possible in their familiar surroundings, shows that these developments are urgently needed. An interdisciplinary approach is taken in the development of the systems and technologies and aspects of gerontology and social sciences are also taken into consideration.

The following partial projects are carried out in the Centre for Applied Research - AAL

  • Development and optimization of an additional haptic sensors for elderly or disabled people
  • Development of a miniaturized body odour sensor
  • Development of behavioural and movement patterns in the home environment through the examination of an energy, water and gas user profile
  • IT-supported situation recognition, communication and intervention: development of appropriate information analysis systems, intervention mechanisms and their implementation in support services
  • Person-centered environment for information, communication and learning (PCEICL): development of an age-appropriate, web-based information, communication and learning platform
  • Qualitative and quantitative social scientific bases for the application and use of AAL technologies
  • Prospective discussion on Ambient Assisted Living
