Experimental system intelligent assistive living environments

Technical assistance systems and technology-supported services for care, often referred to as Ambient Assisted Living (AAL), have the potential to allow those who need care to live an independent life in their own four walls and can allow the scarce resources available for care to be used in a more efficient way.

For the needs-related development of AAL systems however, infrastructures (particularly integration and evaluation platforms) and networks (cooperation platforms), which allow a complete development of AAL systems and services involving users are needed.

This gap between research and practice is what the "Future Care Lab“ hopes to close: as an infrastructure and research platform for interdisciplinary, cooperative development involving end-users, it aims to provide a basis to leap innovation hurdles and speed up the transfer of technical developments in broadly-applicable and successful AAL solutions. The "Living Lab" offers a development and test environment in which end-users and researchers can conceive, develop and evaluate solutions together, under real-life conditions.

The experimental system at the heart of the project, intelligent assistive living environments (ExIAL) is funded through the German Research Collective (DFG) under the auspices of the Large Tools Research Programme and the Baden-Württemberg structural and innovation fund (SI-BW).
